Loop charged, or loop scavenged 2 stroke engines use a flat top piston rather than the deflector topped piston that cross scavenged engines use, RPalan. The term comes from the loop that scavenging charges make in the cylinder.<br /><br />"Loopers" are more efficient and usually more powerful than cross scavenged engines of similar displacement.<br /><br />All of the JohnnyRude 3 cylinder engines are loopers. When introduced as a 55hp in the late 60s they were 20 years ahead of the industry.<br /><br />I don't know what the differences are in the vendors iboats uses but I do know that their reliability has been researched and they are good outfits.<br /><br />Good luck, and welcome aboard.
