Power Head swap?

I have a 58 Evinrude 5.5 outboard that's a little underpowered for my jon boat and the rivers we fish. There's a 59 Evinrude 10 horse powerhead on eBay, no carb or flywheel but supposedly good otherwise. Do anyone know if this poweread would bolt to my 5.5 lower unit and if my 5.5's flywheel could be used? I realize I'll have to find the right carb. Thanks!

Thanks. I didn't get a reply to this question right away so I re-posted it with more info in the subject line. That duplicate isn't showing any more so I assume the moderators removed it. My apologies if that broke protocols. I'm glad now that I didn't buy the power head; saved myself some money and aggravation that can now go toward getting the 5.5 running well or a bigger motor.

Re: Power Head swap?

Although the 10hp wouldn't work on your lower unit, you might be able to find a 7.5hp powerhead, 1954-1958 that would. You'd have to get a complete powerhead - hood and all, but it would bolt onto your lower unit. It'd probably be easier just to keep the 5.5 as a kicker and get a larger motor for when you have to boogie...<br />- Scott
