Power Pack Cranking Output Test Question

I have a 1996 Evinrude 112 SPL with one cylinder not getting spark. I have followed the instructions in my manual and the sensor coil seems fine. I am performing the cranking output test and getting ZERO volts from my power pack outlet leads.

I'm not sure if I am performing the test right, because I figured I would at least show voltage in the outlet leads of the cylinders getting spark. Instead I'm getting zero. I get a nice blue spark in three cylinders.

Can anyone let me know if it is possible to get a strong blue spark when doing a spark test, but no voltage coming from the power pack outlet lead? Time for a new power pack? Existing one is 4 years old.

Thanks in advance for any help. I just found this site and it has been great.

Don't know how you're testing the output from the powerpack but if you're gettin' a big blue spark out of the coil, you can bet the farm it's comin' from the powerpack.

c/6
Hooty

Re: Power Pack Cranking Output Test Question

I was testing the powerpack with a volt meter set up with a homemade load adapter. I guess the load adapter wasn't working well enough for my volt meter to register anything. I ended up diagnosing my problem down to a faulty ignition coil... I hope.. Thanks.
