Is there an easy way to test a powerpack from this engine. i have it off the engine and just need a quick way to see if it is sound. my hunch is that i have trouble with the timing base under the fly wheel but before i go there i want to rule out a bad power pack. comments on power pack testing or timing base problems are greatly appreciated.<br />-Sean

There is no bench test for that type pak. Will the engine start, or is the ignition dead at this point? You need a peak reading volt meter with the engine running to test.

i can get the engine started with the time base linkage in one swwet spot. i desconnected the throttle- timing linkage. i can get the engine started and rev the engine (by hand) with the carb linkage. but i have to hold the timing base linkage (by hand) in one sweet spot. if i move it aft it dies if i move it forward it dies. i have swapped power packs from another engine with the same results. i understand the timing base seldom has problems. i guess i will have to pop the flywheel and look at it to find out. pretty easy to pop flywheel?

Remove the flywheel, and look at the hub that holds the trigger magnets. Try to twist it by hand, and see if it moves. These hubs are held by epoxy, and then can come loose, and slip.
