I need your expertise, do you believe if I connect the power harness for my famous Humminbird fish finder on my auxilary battery that I am using only for my electric motor that this @*&%$#()*(& fish finder will stop loosing the speed signal or the signal at 25 MPH and above ?? Or it doesn't really matter where the power is connected. Because for the transponder I tried all possible adjustment with no success.

Thanks

Smoky ;)

Not exactly sure about the details of your unit's malfunction but the Humminbird is very susceptable to electrical interference. It took my unit two trips to the factory and 80 bucks to find out that you had to connect it directly(power and ground w/ 1 amp fuse) directly to your primary battery. Even though a battery acts as a damper for variouse spikes and other electrical disturbances, I suspect using the trolling motor battery while the motor is running could be creating a problem.

I'm with boomyal. You need a dedicated battery for your sounder. A small motorbike battery is fine if you only run a sounder. That particular Humminbird is only drawing about 1.5 amps with backlighting on.
Regards,
Peter

Boomyal,

For the use of my electric motor I don't really care cause I am not using it very often, my main concern with my sonar is that I am losing the depth or it will freeze as I drive above 25-MPH and this is why I believe that it is related to motor since it is connect on the starting battery on the main motor.

Ragards

Smoky ;)

hi Smokey
Not all sonars are able to show dept at WOT.

The transponder have to be fully covered in water to work.
And if you go 25 mph, maybe you transponder is out of the water or there is a lot of air in the water making bad/wrong ecco's

Mikael
