I dont seem to be able to get my computer to go into power saving mode, I have windows 7 32 bit OS. I thought it was just a matter of going to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options > Power Saver. From here I selected 3mins to power down the monitor and 5mins to put computer to sleep but for some reason it aint working, the monitor just stays on and wont go to the screen saver. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? :(

Cheers.

Try this:

Control Panel
Systems & Security
Power Options
*On the left, click 'Change When the Computer Sleeps'
*Set the time when you want to turn off the display.

If that still doesn't work, then there is a problems with your Windows function. May have to go to the Windows Updater and see if there is a download patch to fix the problem, or report it if there isn't.

Mainboard has to have power control enabled or none of it works.

Thanks, could you elaborate please, is this something that can be fixed by simply updating windows or is it more complex.

Cheers.

The hibernate features on Windows have always given me problems, so I just turn them off now and don't worry about it, I remember when they first started including those types of features in computers, what a mess!

When you restart your computer press the "del" button or whatever else the startup screen tells you to so that you get into the BIOS settings. There should be a power section. Somewhere in the power section there will be an S1, S3, or S1 and S3 option for power handling. Experiment with the features and I bet it will work.

Molte grazie signor dlindeblad :)....I will give that a try and see how it goes.

Re: Power saver windows 7?

mark,
it all depends on the BIOS you have installed for your motherboard. I have mine set to turn off after 3hrs and it works fine. There is another setting in the BIOS to control what the power button does, if you set this to hibernate, you have instant powersaving when you press the power button. Make sure you don't have "wake-on-lan" enabled in the BIOS as well this may be preventing the hibernate. Otherwise there could be a process running in the background that is preventing the hibernate.
