Well I got the stren drive back together. Cleaned out all the sludge out of the stern drive where water had mixed with the oil and was causeing it to short out.
NOW! when I put it in gear I can feel when it goes in forward. When I push the electric shift and put it in reverse, I kills the motor, radio everything. I lose all electric power. Take it out of reverse and I got power.
CAN ANYONE HELP?

------------------
sdglover@cox-internet.com

sdglover

If putting a boat engine back together is like everything else one of two things happend. one is the coil that shifts it into rev. may be grounded out, second you could of pinch the wire going to the coil causing a dead short. I found working with wires in tight places is a tricky job. You mite try to ohm it out but you mite as well pull it apart and check it again. oil lamp

Thanks for your quick reply oil lamp. Now I never did take the gears and stuff out where the magnets are. I took off the lower unit, poured out the old oil sludge, flushed it and replaced it. Then re filled it with 75wt oil. I don't have any pages to show me how to take that off or get to the magnets.
can you help?

------------------
sdglover@cox-internet.com
