Hi,
I would like to replace in my VP 300 CEB engines the PS fluid. Since it has Joystick steering the manual calls to replace it every 3 years or so. (Boat has 250 hrs).
The shop manual doesnt detail the procedure…anybody could provide some
Advice? (Besides asking the dealer to do it..).
Thanks!

If I recall correctly, the interval is 5 years/300 hours for a V8-300-CE-B with a joystick. Drain reservoir, “break” a line at the pump, vacuum to pull fluid out or hand pump new fluid through until old is out (color/shade changes and becomes consistent). Clean off reservoir, hoses and fittings before disconnecting anything so dirt and grime don’t get into system. Not a difficult job. Can be a bit of a PIA depending on boat and access.

Thanks! Do you know if the type of pumps used to change oil can be used for PS fluid? My engine oil change kit includes a thin tube than could be inserted in the oil hose that has to removed from the Ps pump. Therefore i could suck fluid from that hose.

Sorry, I don’t know as I’ve never used a transfer pump for this purpose.

I have a topsider brand pump and have used it for oil, transmission, power steering, differential, and brake fluid. It worked well with no ill effects to the pump. I’ve had mine for 7 years.

Ayuh,..... Best way I've found to do it, involves a helper,.....

Pull the low pressure return line off the pump, 'n direct it into a catchcan,......
Have a couple qt.s of new oil, caps off, at the ready,...
Have yer helper start the motor, at idle, 'n slowly turn the wheel, lock to lock,.....
As that's happenin', pour fresh oil into the tank, as the ole oil leaves, 'n keep watch at the oil goin' into the catchcan,.....
When the waste oil looks clean, Quit, 'n button her up, yer done,.....
