I have a 2010 Volvo 4.3L GL-J
Just got my steering cylinder replaced under warranty due to a leaking ram, fluid is still a little low in the reservoir but could be due to the trailer being tilted a ways back. Its just under the last hash line. My boat dealer is an hour away, went to my local volvo dealer 10 mins away looking for volvo power steering fluid and they didn't have the volvo brand. I didn't have my manual with me to check what it called for but he said the Mercury stuff was the exact same, however when I went to top it off the Mercury fluid was a light/ transparent yellowish color, almost clear. I think I only got about an 1/2 -1 ounce in the reservoir and stopped. Just wanted to check that the fluids can be inter mixed before I added anymore.
This is what he sold me..PN # 92-858074K01
Says for use is most power trim and power steering systems on mercury, mariner, and force outboards and mercury mercruiser sterndrives. No needs to drain the system prior to using fluid, will readily mix with fluid in the system, NOT RECOMMENDED for use in systems that specify SAE 0w-30.
Am I OK with this even tho my fluid is reddish in color which I am guessing is a form of ATF?
