Power steering Problem

Hello again,

I had a new rebuilt 5.7 Mercruiser put in my boat last fall. The steering worked fine before the old motor was pulled. Now, for some reason my steering is choppy, or say ratcheting. The you can actually feel the boat shake when turning at low speeds. Any idea on what it could be? Thanks

Re: Power steering Problem

Like Bond-o says check the fluid. It should bleed itself. When you removed the steering did you remove the hoses?Putting them on backwards sometimes can cause trouble.Lube the steering if it's dry the power steering will not work right.Get back there with a bunch of rags and some light oil and oil the %$#$%^&& out of it.Also there is a grease fitting back there.Use a GOOD grese.J

Re: Power steering Problem

Fluid was low. My guess is that it was not bled. I had a shop pull and install so some things are unknown. Thanks for the help, I will check and try your suggestions
