Hello
1979 amf crestliner 2455 mercruiser i/o 228 (jasper rebulilt in 1995 I think)
Okay so i am starting to hear my power steering pump squeal. its gets a little louder when I turn the wheel. When I am trolling it is squeaky. The pump was almost dry before I filled it to normal. It is not hard to steer or turn the wheel. But of course the noise is probably not a good thing. right?

Is it usually the pulley or the pump? does one get replaced without the other?

Once it starts to squeal how fast will it fall apart. I have no interest in loosing steering away from the dock.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Jim

Sure it's not a loose belt............. usually because the pulley is all rusty?
