Power steering retrofit

I have a '76 model 888 Mercruiser without power steering. Is it possible, within reason, to retrofit the power steering off of a donor boat? My area is full of junk boats with 4.3's and 470's. I know I may need to fab a mount for the pump, but I'm more concerned about mounting the assist cylinder. If it is workable, I'm guessing I may also need to change my helm? A few years ago I upgraded to a no-feedback rack setup. It helped, but this boat could really use power steering.

I asked this question a bunch of years ago and the recommendation wa Hydraulic, but I'm looking at donor boats for a different trailer, so a PS setup would be icing on the cake.

I wonder if I can use one of the universal flat plate type PS brackets for a 302 Ford and use spacers/washers to get it to line up. If I can find a donor boat, I may give it a whirl. Thanks guys.

The actuator is the same, regardless of engine. The only difference would be an early model and late model actuator. The issue comes when trying to mount the actuator to the inner transom plate. For your plate, you need the early model actuator, the one with external hydraulic lines.
