power steering

I have a 95 Mercruiser 4.3LX with the 2nd design power steering. According to my book, I see no adjustment. I have about 2" of free play in the steering wheel that I determined to be in the p/s unit. Is this normal? Can the spool valve (or whaterver is in there) be adjusted a little tighter? I see a round threaded "end plug" with a small set screw in the top. Can this be turned in a little tighter? The cable connection is tight at the steering wheel and at the p/s rack. It is in a Bayliner and has a teleflex cable system. homelite55@aol.com web page

Re: power steering

Hey Homelite, 2 inches of play at they wheel is not alot. I dont think you can adjust that out. On the old cobras we could balance the power steering accuator and relieve a bit of that.havent been able to do that on mercs though. good luck. D
