Completely re-wired the boat i bought the other night (switches and gauges and added some lighting)

After we got done I noticed I had no steering. I know it worked before.....the other night I would turn the wheel about 15-20 times before I noticed the slightest movement in the outboards (Twin Mariner 150's...1989)

Today I noticed not getting any turn at all...seems like the wheel turns freely.

I know this may be a dumb question .... but shouldnt there be power going to the power steering? I looked under the console and at the steering pump which is at the port engine and I see no wiring at all (just the hoses) I thought we might of disconnected a wire for the power steering but I cannot find any coming fromt he steering unit.

The resevoir is on my console on the wheel and when i opened the fill it did sound like I was opening a soda bottle at first. I was going to top off the power steering resovoir in case it was low but we only have regular automotive power steering fluid here at my firehouse where I have the boat and didnt think i should put that in but instead use a marine grade power steering fluid.

Ayuh,... If it's got a pump on the motor,...

That's all the power it needs...

It sounds like ya got a 'ell of a Leak,... Find the Leak, 'n you've probably found the Problem...

Btw,... Nothin' special 'bout marine P/S oil...

Re: Power Steerling

k thanks..... I first added some PS Fluid into the resevoir (took a little less than 1/4 of a 1 quart jug) and steering came back to normal. I did notice a small drip on my transom just underneath the piston for the hydraulic steering so i am guessing I may have a leak there.
