Hi guys-
does anyone have an opinion; in general; on weather or not a T/T unit from a 85 4 cyl Rude will fit on my 65hp 3 cylender rude.
I am going to look at a 85 hp motor tommorrow and wanted to grab the T/T and maybe the prop off of it. THe Guy want's 2.50 for the motor.
The year of my 65hp motor is 73 and the 85hp motor is said to be 76.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. any exacting answers will be met with eternal gratitude...
thanks guys

The mounting plates are different. The overall unit may be the same but......

Thanks EZ ! Really?
So what's a good way to test if the t/t works or at least might not be broken. THe OB is off the boat so there'e no remote control attached?
Can I jumper the contacts to at least test the motor?
also, do you think the mounting issue can be over come with a few new dirll holes or something?
What about the LU you think they are interchangable as well?
Great advice THANKS!!:)

Re: Power T/T 85 2 65 retro fit

I don't have a lot of technical knowledge on the subject. I used to have a '73 Johnson 85. I looked for YEARS for a TnT unit. Only pre-'78 units would work and they ALWAYS got bid up to and sometimes over $400 on ebay. So I never got one. As far as I could tell by looking was the only difference between the 3 and 4 cylinder units was the mounting plate that went on the leg of the motor. If I were you I wouldn't worry about testing it. If you can acquire all the parts, they are probably all repairable. Not sure on the lower unit. I know those early lowers also go for more money than the post '78 units so again, if you can't use it, clean it up and sell it.

More great and appreciated advice. He also bought a new power pack for it and a new starter. SOunds like I should go get it, then figure out what I have.
I am not real keen on selling on Ebay though, I try to use CL if I can, the whole paying to sell and shipping thing kinda keep me off.
Thanks Again EZ! YOu said you "used" to have a 73 Johnson 85. what happened to it, just curious...
