So, ive done some reading on this and im honestly lost and confused..

When raising my 1987 Mercury 150 Blackmax XR2 all the way up, after a little while it will leak all the way down.. Have no problems with it raising up and down at all.. Just when i raise it up an leave it up it will leak down..

So any help what so ever will be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Re: Power tilt and trim..

first: i'm not a reputable source

second: how long does it take for it to start lowering? If its very slow i.e. takes a couple hours to slide down, I would suggest trimming up then adding trim fluid. Maybe there is just enough fluid to do the task at hand but not enough to hold position?

i'm assuming we are talking about an engine that is just sitting.

My 95 115 Mariner was doing the same thing last year. I ended up replacing the manual relief valve. The very tip of it had broken off by the outer "O" ring and was allowing fluid to pass. Mercury service manual lists checking the valve as the first step in trouble shooting a leak down problem, after verifying the valve it tightened all of the way.
