1994 merc 225...power tilt has gotten noisier and seems to be a bit slower. On it's way out, or something that can be done to it? Thx

Re: power tilt noisy

Not any help from me; sorry to say.

Just a comment that on the weekend when I was at the water... there was a fellow at the ramp next to me with a brand new Honda 150.....I couldn't help but notice just how **QUIET** the Honda 150 4 stroke's Power Tilt was....way quieter than my Merc.

Those Honda's are very impressive...everything seems so well engineered.

T&T systems are hydraulic. The noise comes from the pump.

Pump noise comes from cavitation or from air in the oil.

You might be getting a bit low on fluid, or you might have a sticky cylinder.

Good luck. :)

Also on Merc's, you need to apply a dab of grease to the ends of the rams. There is a ball bearing on the ends of the rams, and when they dry out, can get noisy. If your noise is only happening near the end of the trim cycle, both up and down, try putting some grease on the ends.
