Have just got hold of a calco power tilt. Managed to rewire and get it working. Question is, seem to drain the battery really quick if motor is not running. Is this normal ir do I have a problem? any help would be appreciated.

no battery is fully charged. Have tried two different ones.Only seem to have enough to lift the rams once.

Re: power tilt question

I'm with upinsmoke. A bad battery may appear to be good, but it is not necessarily true even though it holds 12 amps. The bigger truth behind a bad battery is the length of time that it is able to hold that charge.

If you had bad wiring that caused a good battery to drain in a matter of a few seconds, you may also be finding some smoking insulation on your wires.

John

Thanks yingling-j, I did have a small amount of smoking from the wires, just thought it was because the motor hadn't been used. Might have to replace all the wiring. Do you know if there is a particular gauge wire I should use

Re: power tilt question

does the unit have relays or is it wired direct? that may put an excess load on the switch wiring.
