Got my hands on a old power tilt unit , but it got some electric problems ( bad wiring ).
It got 3 wires, Green,Blue and black , thats all I got :) .
Where do I connect what to make it work  .
It is from a 1967 mod Johnson 80 ( V4AL-19R ).

Got the manual for the engine I plan to use it on ,but not any schematic for the power tilt unit .

'kay. The black wire is the ground or common. The blue wire is tilt up and the green wire is tilt down.

c/6
Hooty

What's the black wire ,if I connect ground to the black wire and + to ether green/blue ,it short out  .
Is it connected to a overheat/current switch ?
But if I connect the ground directly to the metal , and the + to either green/blue it works :) .
Leaving the black wire NOT connected to anything .
Made this image

Need to replace all wires so... thats why the black wire is replaced with a blue wire ,temp fix .

droll@online.no

Re: Power tilt schematic ( 1967 )

Anyone understanding what I was trying to draw ?

To help you understand why , the electric wiring was rely bad ,+ someone have tried to repair something inside the electric motor before I got it , they did some soldering but it did not hold .

When I opened the head I found :
Green wire soldered to field coil 1
Blue wire soldered to field coil 2
Output on bout field coils were connected together ( center field coils , see pic )
So far so good , all these soldering looks original

But the brown wire from the center field coils to the brush ( point 2 on the picture )
And the black wire connected to the "overheat ? " switch ? , this one was loose( point 1 on the picture )

So the simple question ,where do I connect the BLACK and the BROWN wire

Got it running , but without any "overheat" switch ,and the black wire NOT connected to ground ( used the metal as ground )

Got the motor running , here is the internal wiring :

Green wire connected to field coil 1 .
Blue wire connected to field coil 2 .
Black wire connected to the negative brush or the metal chassis.
Brown wire from the "center" of the field coils goes to the positive brush ,( thru the overheat switch ( point 1 on the picture))
