Power Tilt System Leak

I finally got my 78 GW Pacer (Mercruiser 470) in the water Saturday after it spent 5 weeks in a shop having all sorts of engine/OD service (I'm no longer physically capable of doing the heavy stuff:blue:). Took the wife out on Saturday for her (wife's) maiden voyage on a local lake and the boat ran great. Had social commitments Sunday and didn't get out on the boat, but while we were out the guy that's renting me dock space called and said that the boat was leaking a small amount of oil into the water. I went to the boat this morning, and sure enough, there was a light sheen. Opened the engine compartment and saw tilt system oil in the bilge. So I pulled the boat out and brought it home to work on. I discovered oil leaking from the bottom of the pump reservoir, but I can't tell if it's a hydraulic line or a seal on the bottom of the reservoir. Pulled the trim pump out and I'll probably replace the gaskets on the bottom to be safe. I've also ordered new hydraulic lines (three of them) going from the pump to the reverse lock valve (1), from the reverse lock to the transom manifold (2), and from the pump to the transom manifold (3).
My question is: in order to remove the two lines going to the transom manifold, it is necessary to pull the drive from the gimbal and pull the transom plate in order to access the lines inside the boat?

No, remove item 32 in the pic and will need to replace the gasket item 31. All done fromthe outside. Spray with PB blaster and such.

I'd look at connections to both rams before doing anything else. On a trailer, raise and lower drive several times. Mine leaked a couple of times and took a while to see where it was coming from. I had also overfilled resivore.

AllDodge, thanks for the response...however, the linked image is too small to read, and I can't seem to enlarge it enough without the image becoming too pixelated. Do you have the link source or can you reload it in a larger version? Thanks.

tank, thanks for replying, but my problem is inside the boat. The lines going to the tilt cylinders are fine. The problem lines are going from the pump to the inside of the transom - to some sort of manifold or valve, from what I can tell. Thanks.

Mainexile, perhaps I misunderstood you. You mentioned sheen on water outside of boat.

Mainexile, tank1949 makes a good point, your looking inside the boat for the problem but the oil was seen outside.

Sorry for the confusion, guys. The primary leak is inside the boat, but apparently there is also a small hull/transom/transom plate leak allowing water intrusion and oil extrusion. I'll deal with that shortly, but for now I'm just trying to stop the tilt fluid leak. BTW, any opinions on using some type of sealant on the hydraulic hose fittings? I'm gonna start a new thread on that topic to see what the consensus is. Thanks again.

Sealing Tilt Hose Fittings?

Sealing Tilt Hose Fittings?

Opinions please? I'm about to replace all of the tilt hydraulic lines inside the boat (1978 GW Pacer/Mercruiser 470), and I would appreciate a consensus on whether or not to put thread sealant on the hose fittings. Thanks, everyone.

Thanks for the quick response, guys. Gonna go out to the boat now and get dirty...and contorted - gawd but there's not a lot of space between the transom and the engine.

Ayuh,... The aft end of the hoses attach to a manifold, accessed from outside the hull, under the drive,...
