hi guys I know this is a frequent question and I am pretty mech. inclined.. im working on a 1987 60 horse with power til and trim . I know the green wire to the sylnoid is down and blue up. im just trying to get this boat I bought ready for water .. thin is I hit the trim button up or down I can here the sylnoids. clicking and working so to say.. but no motor or motor noise .. so this is what I id I tried crossing the both big terminals on them(sylnoids) and nothing ...so I took jumper cables and I touch each one with possative lead and still nothing ..I touch 1 of the small terminals and I an get them to click this is the green and blue wires directly to the trim motor .. and still nothing out of the motor .. am I missing something stupid to make this thing work

The motor is bad, probably a stuck brush, in the old days you could tap on the end plate to get them going but many of todays motors are ceramic and will crack

Re: power tilt trim not motor working please help

hi guy sorry to bring this back.. but im in a pickle here. I changed the hydrolic motor the new motor only has the blue and green wires 2. not a black one like the original motor .. I figure this is a ground . and the new motor grounds when bolted to the motor . anyway. I bolted in the motor and run the 2 wires (blueand green) to where they are supposed to go . how ever still nothing the motor don't run. up or down ..so I got my jumper baterrie and . I grounded it to the motor . and put the hot right on the blue and green wires directly to the motor(one at a time though) and it still don't run . what am I missing . the motor should run if itds hooked direct to the battery right .. well then I got my test ligh out. and tested the silnoids I get power to the small wires when I move the switch . however I don't get power aross both big terminals .. but really the motor anyway should run hooked driect to the battery pease elp .

The 2 wire motor is for relays and the 3 wire is for solenoids, the relays reverse the polarity and the solenoids do not.

you have to replace the solenoid sub-harness with a relay sub-harness. The relays and relay harness are generic commodity for 2w trim. Also often found in automobiles for control of reversible 12v motors. I have seen the cheap ones on ebay for around $30. The mercury force ones are better built but may be harder to find.

I just replaced mine. The old motor had 3 wires coming out of it the new one only had 2, the blue and the green. The ground was attached to the relays on the new one. Remove the old solenoids and and use the wires and relays that came with. That is if it came with a separate wire harness

The blue and the green are not power and ground. Current to the blue makes it go up, current to the green makes it go down. What I need to know is when you got the new motor was there a separate wire harness in the package? if so, all of the wires need to be hooked up for it to work at all.

ON 3wire trim motors:
black is common ground and must have a claen, solid connection to Battey (-).
Blue is for up
Green is for down

Internally, the motor windings have a center tap where blue and green meet. If green is grounded while blue is connected then you are instructing the motor to spin in both directions at the same time. (green draws voltage away from armature via the center tap connection). If you ground green (or blue) then you will eventually melt your trim motor.
