Hi guys,

I need to remove my 1979 Johnson 150 from my boat in order to hoist the cap off. What is the best way to disconnect all wiring/linkage/tilt-trim lines. Any tips or tricks for easy disconnect/re-install. I believe power tilt and trim is hydraulic so what is the best way to purge/fill the system. I have never done a removal before so I just need a walk thru before the project next weekend.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Power Tilt/Trim Steering Disconnect

Should not be a big deal...pretty straight forward. The Red Plug disconnect (inside the motor cover) pretty much disconnects everything electrical to the motor. The control cables will easily disconnect from the engine with a regular wrench. There will be no purging or anything like that with the trim & tilt system...its all self contained....it comes off with the engine. Assuming you have a way to lift the motor off the transom, the rest of the stuff will be cake.

(5 minutes later) You know, I am assuming you have a standard single or double cable steering system. The removal may be a little more complicated with a hydraulic steering system.
