power tilt wiring question

I have recently aquired an old boat with a 72 Johnson 100hp with power tilt. There are three wires coming out of the power tilt. Two go to the tilt control on the dash. The third is black and has a battery cable connector on the end. Is this a power wire or a ground wire?

The black wire with a ring teminal on it would be the ground to the battery.

Thanks for the response EN2. I connected the black to the battery ground and found a red with a ring terminal to connect to battery pos. Power tilt seems to work fine. I got this motor free and P/O didn't know anything about it. I am now in the process of figuring out what works and what doesn't.
