the power tilt on my yamaha 60 is no longer lifting the prop clear of the water, as i use the boat 3 or 4 times per week and there is a zinc fitted is this a problem corrosion wise (salt water)? i'm reluctant to take the boat out of the water unless i really need to - the season here is short enough.

no the water level is the same i think it is an hydraulic problem, it move up / down enough to trim but not enough to tilt

Re: power tilt

I hear you about taking the boat out for repair in a short season. The zinc in theory will attract the corrosion away from you aluminum. I would check your fluid levels and see if you have a small leak.

Re: power tilt

yes but it will usually wipe out the oorings if you use the manual release screw, sounds like ya need to pop it out of the water for the ol repairs. if the unit is not corroded then you can reseal the unit in a few hours. if oil can leak out water will leak in. if the unit is damaged by saltwater they cost something around 1000 dollars here. usually its the orings in the trim caps. the trim pistons can be resealed with just the motor tilted up.takes 30 min maybe to reseal the trim pistons and caps. replace all the orings and back up rings and all the cap orings and wipers.
