I have a 200 hp evinrude that the power trim and tilt seems to be working backwards on. When it goes down the two rams for the trim go in then the single tilt rod engages and lowers the unit. Is there an explanation for this or just a simple fix???

Re: power trim and tilt

I am hoping someone can answer this as I have never seen this before on any of my other boats prior to this one. Any help is much appreciated

Re: power trim and tilt

Shouldn't the tilt ram take it down to the trim rams which in turn should lower it the rest of the way or am I missing something?

That was what I was thinking and I think that's why the comment was made. He seen the trim cylinders lower first then the tilt ram.

Also as said above, the tilt tube may be binding. When tilting down the mtr falls from gravity.

Re: power trim and tilt

Haven't been on in awhile so thought I needed to update
Found that where the wires go into the control box for t/t the metal tabs that cross over the wires were corroded. Cleaned them and put diolectric grease on them and the t/t has never worked so good since I've owned it. Thanks to all fir input on this as everything has helped in looking for the problem hope maybe this will help someone else

Re: power trim and tilt

all three rams are pumped in unison. Which rams retract in which order depend upon square inches and weight of engine. Without weight of engine, then the ram with lowest internal friction will fully retract first.

It should be noted that some E/J trim systems have a tilt limit valve in the tilt cylinder and may require the weight of an engine in order to properly reverse direction.
