Power Trim in Shallow Water

I live on a shallow bay. There's lots of mud flats and sand bars here and I was wondering, when you hit one of those things with an outboard that has power trim, does the motor tilt up some like one without power trim, or does the trim mechanism keep it locked down, bringing the boat to a sudden stop?

If you hit with enough force, the outboard will be forced up just like a standard non-trim unit. However, if your going slow, you will not realize the motor is in a muddy bottom unless you see the teltale mud swirl behind the engine as you churn mud, then you need to flush the engine really well to make sure there is no mud sucked into the cooling system. Similarly, if you have the motor trimmed down and go full power astern, the motor will kick up hard, something else to watch out for.

Not with PT&T.
The pressure in the pump keeps it pretty well in place.

the easiest way is not to have trim and tilt, and then just leave the motor unlocked.

Or use a dinky motor that has a shallow water drive position, like I do. I go through water that's only a foot deep with it, using the shallow water drive. The water pump still pumps fine, and you can go at up to about half throttle. It also makes the thing virtually weedless. Nice for fishing those shallows for bucketmouths.

Of course, I can only go about 15mph with my tinny and little 6hp.
