power trim issue

my power trim has a slow spot when raising using the switch on the shifter. it lowers just fine but when raising there is a distinct change in the sound or it just stops at about 30-40% of the way up. it seems like if it is all the way up and i lower it slightly it will still raise back up from there. kinda like a dead spot near the 40-60% mark but fine outside of that. the thing that confuses me is that it works fine using the trailer button. this tells me the trim motor is fine? but i can't see the switch being the issue either. if the switch was going bad i doubt it would have an issue at the same spot every time. another thing i noticed was that it seems if the engine is running or the charger has just been disconnected it will work (but will audibly 'drag' at that spot). but if it is off the charger for a short time and the engine is not running it will hang at that point. but still work with the trailer button?

thoughts? anything i should be checking? corroded fittings tells me it would do it all the time regardless of position? a bad motor tells me the trailer button would act the same way. a weak battery would have the same result with either the switch or the trailer button?

What brand/model of outdrive are we talking about?

The trim systems are supposed to stop about 30-40% of the way up when using the switch on the throttle/shifter. That prevents you from raising the outdrive too far while underway. The trailer button works regardless of position.

If the button on the throttle continues to raise the outdrive past the 'trim limit', then there may be a problem with the limit sender (switch) on the outdrive.

Agree you have a limit switch issue if your able to run the drive all the way up with the trim switch.

My guess is it slows down so far up due to a bad connection (or lack thereof) in this case. The trailer switch by passes the limit

that would make sense. its a merc 260 aplha 1 gen 1 (1986). i would say it goes up past where you would ever want to cruise at. it has gotten 'stuck' there before though. to where it hits that spot and then won't go up or down
