Hi,
I'm having trouble with my power trim motor. I'm troubleshooting at the moment.

The thing is, I want to lower the motor manually, so we can go out in the meantime. I know there is a screw on the motor for doing this, and I think I have found it. Now to my question:

The power trim motor (and the screw) is under water, can I do this while the boat is still in the water or will that make water come in to the cylinders or something? How far out do I have to unscrew the screw? I tried just releasing a bit, but nothing happened. Do I have to unscrew it completly?

I have a Evinrude 110 hp from 1987, if that makes any difference...

I'd be thankfull for some tips.

regards

Richard

Re: Power trim motor, manually

The manual release screw should release the pressure with one full turn only . I don't think I'd do it with it under water.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Power trim motor, manually

if the manual release valve is well above the water line it should be OK. If it doesn't move down under gravity after one full turn consider the problem is in the lack of lubrication on the main motor tilt rod. hope this helps - I recommend you get a manual for the outboard

Re: Power trim motor, manually

Thanks for the tips. How do I check the lubrication on the main motor tilt rod? Is there an easy way?

By the way, I hope I found the right screw. There were two screwes, one on the top of the tilt motor and one a little below that. I looked as if the first one was for a lid or something on the motor. Is there a way to be absolutely sure that it's the right screw(without having a manual 8) )?

I probably should get that manual...

regards
