In both the Seloc, and Clymer manuals for your motor, are instructions on how to do this... Don't have the exact location off the top of my head, but you will most likely find a "manual" bleed screw identified in the manuals, which you can open to release the fluid pressure on the ram piston, then manually lift the gear case until you can set the latch to hold it up...
