Rebuilding a 1980 Bayliner Quartermaster and the wiring is well "special" to say the least. I have made a panel, New gauges, new switches, ran all new wiring via a fuse block.

currently working on the final touches on dual relay power trim and would like everyone's thoughts on where to get the power for power trim motor.

Should it be wired directly to a battery or via the dual battery switch?

the previous owner(s) had it wired , unswitched, unfused directly to #1 battery.

Cheers

Ayuh,..... Trim pumps, Usually have the power cable hooked to the battery, or to the battery lug on the starter's solenoid,.....

A direct battery connection, either way,.....

My Searay has it wired indirectly to the battery switch, I think the positive comes off the starter motor which is only a few feet from the trim pump. Not sure why you wouldn't want it to be switched.

Ayuh,...... I'm not sure why ya Would,......

With my transom mounted trim switch, I can raise or lower the drive on the wagon, without havin' to crawl up into the boat,.....
Can't reach the battery switch from the ground,.....

If you have a transom mounted trim switch, to alleviate the requirement to climb up into the boat to trim the drive UP or DOWN, then why would you have it switched, requiring you to climb into the boat to turn on a battery switch? Sort of defeats the purpose really...

If you're worries about it being 'unprotected', don't. The pump has a 110A fusible link on the power cable.
