Re: Power trim problem
I looked at that but I don't think the motor mount will swing out enough to get to the back trim motor screw.
No service manual. The retaining pin is what I'm having a problem getting out. Used a floor jack to move motor up, no room to swing hammer and hold punch. If I could remove pin I think trim unit would drop out the bottom.
I was able to remove my trim motor today by just moving the right bracket over to the side. The four screws(through bolts) on top of the (square) motor and the two allen bolts from the end frame cap all were removed with moving the bracket over. The tilt tube nut has to be at the end of the threads, I also did this without blocking with the 2x4 and c-clamp.
When I lifted the motor off of the end frame cap, a bunch of water came out. It smelled burnt and rusty. I was actually glad to see the water, now I knew why the motor had failed. Water did not get into the pump, the seal of the end frame cap and armature shaft held.
I took the motor to a local automotive starter/altenator repair shop and a $65rebuild later, they say it runs like a champ. Time will tell. I plan to use the same gasket between the end frame cap and motor. I will use a gasket sealer (RTV blue maybe) on the gasket and screws, probably all over the place. This isn't the first time the motor was apart. Wires had butt connectors on them and were pushing down on the brushes and springs.
