I have a 1978 Glastron with a Merc 898 Chevy 305 a (I think a Prestoline pump). Last year I had problems with the four o rings on the bottom of the pump blowing for no apparent reason. Before I spend the money on a new pump I thought I would take the original apart to see if there was any obvious problems.
The only thing I could find was it was full of sludge. I took it all apart and cleaned it up, reassembled and the drive went up and down about three times before the clear 1/4 inch line from the pump to the reverse lock valve blew.
I decided to replace all the hoses in the system, assuming they were old and that was the problem. Now after all new hoses the drive will only travel a little bit up and down but never all the way to either position. if you keep running it back and forth the clear line blows.
I did not adjust any of the settings in the pump and put it all back like it was. The only thing I can come up with is I put the hoses on wrong?
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
