Power Trim Relay Problem

I have a 1995 60 HP Evinrude outboard (E60TLEOC). I've had to replace the relay for the power trim (up mode) 3 times this summer. It seems to go out completely about once a month after about 15 hours of use. Sometimes I can pull it out and re-seat it and it will work and other times it won't and the relay has to be completely replaced. I've tried cleaning the mounting bracket with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Power Trim Relay Problem

The factory replacement relays come with a one year parts and LABOR warranty. If you are using other makers or automotive relays, that is a different story.

the factory relays will say Siemens or Potter-Brumfield and I've never seen one of those brands fail.

If you have to re-seat one to make it work, then you have a corrosion or loose connection problem in the socket area.

Make sure the connections are good then spray dielectric corrosion inhibitor.
Make sure you are getting 12v to the driver side of the relay.

Re: Power Trim Relay Problem

I picked up the relays from my local johnny/rude dealer but I don't think they're Siemens or Potter-Brumfied, I'll have to check again. It's not a show stopper for me, so I'll probably dive into it towards the end of the fishing season. One thing is for sure, I'll definately carry some spares on the boat, manually lifting that engine wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Thanks for the input.
