I have a 71 or 73 Chrysler 105hp outboard and a 88 Force 125hp Outboard. The Chrysler is missing the electric motor for the trim/tilt but the valve body is good. The Force is complete but leaks down. From what I can tell the resevoir is slightly taller on the Force than it is on the Chrysler. Both valve bodies mount to the transom bracket the same way and both have 3 lines out the side and 1 out the bottom. Will the electric motor on the force work on the valve body on the Chrsyler? I would like to put the Chrysler valve body on the Force to stop my leak down problem.

What about seals? Will I need to replace any seals or gaskets just to simply switch the motor over?

The size of the reservoir determines which oil tubes are needed. Otherwise all the parts between the systems are interchangeable. If you use wrong reservoir with wrong tubes then the ports and tubes miss each other by about 1/2 inch. Since tubes are stainless and pump is aluminum the ports typically end up cross-threaded and stripped - which requires a full rebuild to fix and guarantee no metal flakes in system.

So I may need to switch the tubes as well? Cross threading is not a problem, I am a mechanic by trade so there wont be any crossthreading.

So far what I am seeing is I may have to change the tubes as well but other than that everything will work.

My only other concern is are there any seals or gaskets between the valve body and the electric motor. I dont want to get started and find out I need gaskets or seals.

There is only a thin rubber O ring around the perimeter of the pump. A bronze bushing at the top of the reservoir seals the reservoir from the motor and you are not going to disassemble them. (res and motor)

Does anyone know where I can get an exploded view of the valve body and where I can find the parts to fix the leak down? I have found it may be a simply fix but cannot locate parts anywhere.

Chrysler, Force, Mercury never offered the internal parts for sale and therefore never provided any internal diagrams. Evinrude Johnson used same pump for power tilt 197x-198x and did offer a few very basic items.

If you carefully re-bend tubes you can use new pump on old tubing. However, it is very difficult to get the tube nut square with port. Even the slightest error in angle can make the threads very difficult to align.

There have been persistent rumors that you can get the needed parts from lawnmower shops and there was once a post with photos showing which ball bearings go where. I have my doubts about the lawnmower parts, but have seen the photo. If you search past posts diligently enough then you should be able to find it.
