Power Trim/tilt issue on 77 Johnson

I have a 77 Johnson 140 that will trim up but not down. I had a problem with a bad o-ring on the manual release valve, so I replaced it and I recently drained the fluid and replaced it, and it will trim up beautifully but not down. The motor runs and it looks like it attempts to go down but can't. It should be full on fluid as I replaced it, and if you take the fill screw off when fully trimmed it leaks out. What else could it be? When underway on the lake it will not trim up either (under load of the water weight).

P.S: The battery is fully charged.

You probably have air in the system. Have somebody stand on the cavitation plate while you trimdown. If that works, then go all the way upand all the way down a bunch of times to purge the air from the cylinders and lines.

Should I open the valve, how will the air escape?

If I stand on it, it slowly goes down (I am fairly heavy at 200lbs) after 3 trips it still will not go down without help. What could be wrong with it??

Keep doing it up and down. Go all the way each way. You don't need to vent it. The trapped air is in the cylinder and lines and it will work its way into the top of the reservoir. Also grease the 2 grease zerts on the front where the motor pivots up and down.
