My 1150 merc is very heavy to lift into the towing position, will a power trim/tilt unit lift it into the towing position and if so please inform me of the best way to add this to my boat. I've read that the older/original units are costly to repair, I believe i read something about newer units that fit between the transom and the motor. What are my options, please educate me on this subject. thanks

I think factory units are best---found mine on ebay.

Be aware that you may have to get a longer steering cable, as these have at least a 6" setback....

Re: Power trim/tilt units

I have had OEM PT&T units and I now have a CMC130 aftermarket unit.

I much prefer the OEM units, in spite of the time and trouble to install one on an existing engine.

Why?

The CMC unit is big and bulky, creates a setback whether you want one or not and does not have a low speed trim range along with the high speed tilt range.

And.. . .I think it is ugly.

I agree with JB----it would have been a pain to put an aftermarket on my boat.
