power trim wont go down

Hello,
Please help me troubleshoot my problem. I have a 2006 chaparral 255 ssi , 8.1 Gi-G , DP-S.

my issue.

driving boat from helm:
trim up works ok
trim down doesn't work

motor on idling:
power trim works up and down from helm and from swim platform remote

at dock engine off , in neutral:

power trim works up and down from helm and from swim platform remote

at dock engine off, in forward or reverse:

power trim works up but not down from helm

power trim works up and down from swim platform remote:



any ideas????

My guess since it works sometimes is you have a bad connection somewhere. Volvo in their infinite wisdom didn't seem to like using waterproof connectors for the trim setup. Which leads to corrosion in a marine environment. Maybe they do now but I haven't seen it yet. I'd try disconnecting the pump, follow the wires out of the pump and you shoud find a plug, disconnect that plug and clean the connections with a small wire brush and some contact cleaner. Check the wires, if they are bulging where they meet the connector cut that section out and replace the connector. Next, pull the relays out of the pump unit and clean those connections. Spray some of the cleaner into the receptacle. Then I'd try spraying a little cleaner in the switch at the helm. I'd also look for the helm connection and do the same thing.

On your trim pump there is a relay little square box. check it. have some one push the switch then tap on it or hit it or get a new one might be it fixed mine
