Power Trim

This is just a stabb in the dark, but I was curious if power trim is somewhat universal. I have a 1977 Mercury 70 hp 3 cylinder. Unfortunately it has no power trim, just the two little shocks on the back. I would like to add power trim to it, but I was quoted a price of $350 for parts to do it with. I do, however, possibly have access to a free Evinrude power trim kit. I'm not sure about this but is there any way to adapt this to my motor if I put my mind to it? I thought it was worth asking and thanks for the help in advance.

I'd take the free trim kit, put it on ebay, and then buy the parts you need from ebay. You can do it a whole lot cheaper than $350.

Well couldn't you use some adapter type pieces proabably homemade and make it hook to the engine?

I'd imagine you could make it work if you tried hard enough, but you're just going to end up with something that doesn't work or look quite right, and probably difficult to resell. The trim parts are really quite cheap on ebay...especially if you wait until winter to buy them.

I do see what you're saying ZmOz. I'm not too crazy about E-Bay though, but I do agree with the winter thing and it will proabably be winter before I can afford something like that.
