Hello All,
My power trim buttons on the throttle control have the up and down switch and then there is the trailer button. The lower unit use to trim up to a point then stop at a operating limit then to bring it to the top I would use the trailer button. Now the up down button just brings it all the way up and the trailer button does not work at all.
Any idea where I would start to find the problem?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Power Trim

Wow that is a new one;). The trim (purple/white) wire goes from the control handle switch to the limit switch (black wire) and back out (black wire) to a connector in the stern (2 blue/white wires) then on to the trim motor. Trailer wire (blue/white) goes directly to that connector bypassing the trim limit. So somehow your trim is feeding 12V directly into the blue/W wire, and the trailer is not. I would look for a broken wire in the control handle that is somehow making contact with the trim wire. Good luck.

Re: Power Trim

I agree, sounds like a bad limit switch.
And also a bad wire or connection in the tilt switch or wiring.

bifflefan I think his limit switch is probably still OK, just being bypassed by the bad connection.

Re: Power Trim

Hello,
I have a '78 Starcraft with power trim on a 140 I/O. The problem I have is that the wiring has never been quite right. It has two switches on the dashboard one right above the other. The bottom switch is a Trim Up/Down and the other is a Tilt In. The Trim does go up and down but the gauge doesn't work and the tilt In limit switch is not in use. Everything works but it's just not hooked up right. No wiring diagram I've ever seen shows the color wires I have which are White, White/blue and blue coming from the harness. Purple and Blue with female ends also coming from the harness and 4 black wires coming from the switches on the outdrive, two black wires on each switch.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Pictures might help too!

Thanks in advance.
Brian
