Powerhead identification

I know the question of what year/hp an outboard is has been answered hundreds of times and I've determined from the model number that I have a 1985 Evinrude 90hp. My question is whether or not there is a way to identify the powerhead to see if it matches the numbers of the transom bracket??<br /><br />Thanks.

s/n should be on the the round plug on the side of the block should match the one on transom plate

My 81 140 has the plug on the top of the block by the head...
