Does it make a difference for alignment or some other oddity?

It seems as though it would be "safer" for the crankshaft / drive shaft splines to have lwr unit removed.

I am installing reman. powerhead on 1.6l Sea Drive and have lwr unit out already. I've been considering installing powerhead first than lwr unit.

details, details, details............

I have read posts from others and I agree that it is easier to insert a lower unit driveshaft up into a powerhead than to drop a power head down onto a lower unit driveshaft. I think its just easier to aling it that way.

Its just as easy with the lower on. Just rotate the flywheel on the way down.
