Does the engine shroud come completely off ? I removed 3 bolts each side and 4 nuts 2 at front and 2 back. Shift linkage and wires. The lift bracket uses the flywheel puller 3 bolt holes , those are strong enough to pull powerhead off .
Will the shroud just drop down? I was worried would pull threads from flywheel and come crashing down . What really needs to come off to pull powerhead ? Book says starter ,etc.... I no some things can stay attached and removed after
What years that?
Sometimes you need to rock the engine side to side to split the seal apart.
Are the two at the back the ones under exhaust? If so they can seize in quite badly. If its the motor im thinking of i needed to remove the exhaust plate and drill them out from the inside
Yeah starter and all that can stay on, just makes it a bit heavier to lift off.
Go around it checking nothing is still connected to base and you should be fine
I got nuts off under exhaust . Haven't tried lifting yet . Didn't want to start removing extra stuff till on bench . No broken bolts . Which bolts break on this motor ? 1973 135 hp
Yep the nuts often come off but the bolt and threads that are attached to the block that the nut screws on to are often seized in there. If it does not lift suspect there first.
Got powerhead off today. Came right off no problem at all. Removed all the electronics ,tried to take off so most wires attached but didn't work out ., Hope can remember we're all wires go . My luck stator or power pack will crap out from just moving them around . Both are brand new.
I took bunch of pics . Checked manual to make sure I could see we're wires go . I have rebuilt many a car and lots of diesels ,not sure why this boat motor got me so nervous. Maybe it's the wife breathing down my neck and complaining about all the parts I bought.
Got motor tore down . No broken bolts came apart nice . I am thinking might be rebuilt powerhead at one time . Very little wear on parts . Any tips on assembly ?
