I have a Mercury that needs repairing.
Could someone give some advise concerning welding.
My powerhead has a hole in it due to the fact that a rod came out of it when I lost the motor.
The hole is not very big. I have been told that it can be patched ( welded ) and that will be good as new. I woud like to know before I give the OK to rebuild my motor and to weld it.
Your opinons on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Rico

Re: Powerhead Repair

Rico, You might take it to a welder and see what he thinks. Cast aluminum is difficult to weld. Inspect the crankshaft and the cylinder walls to see what else is damaged. Add up the cost for the new parts and repair, and you can make a determination whether you want to try it.
