I need to pull the powerhead of my OMC '84 1.6L Sea Drive(= 115 hp V4).

Any idea on what the powerhead weighs?

Do I need the lifting hook called out in the manual?
Can I expect to lift it off with the help of another person? (I hope a hoist isn't needed!)

To prevent damage to the drive shaft I thought I'd drop the lwr unit before removing powerhead, any value in doing this?

As always a sincere thanks for everyones input.

R.

R. Wood,

I would expect that powerhead to weigh at least 100 #. Maybe more. Two people can easily handle it.

Pulling the L/U won't help or hinder, but you might as well replace the impeller while you're at it.

If you drop that rascal or blow out a back that hook will look pretty good. it sure doesnt need to be expensive or complicated but just think of the control it will give you especially on the install.A comealong and 3 2X4s Be careful a comealong isnt for lifting but with so little weight its easy.

Thanks for the estimate.

Can you suggest a source for the OMC Universal puller and lifting eye?

Hopefully I'll be removing powerheads soon. I need to pull port motor to replace powerhead to adaptor gasket. Starboard needs a little more work, only 30 psi in #4 cylinder.

R.
