I have a 1983 75HP Evinrude Model # E75TRLCTE. The #1 Cylinder is not firing. I checked the spark plug wire, good. Checked the ignition coil, good. My next step is to check the powerpack. I am following the OMC manual for the tests. My question is, if it is the powerpack does anyone know the powerpack part # of this model engine? I did a search here on the site and came up with an Evinrude/Johnson Power pack for around $80 and I want to make sure this is the correct one.

OK, another question. If indeed the problem is the power pack, do I need to check the maximum spark advance after replacement and if so do I need a special tool to perform this? <br /><br />The manual says to connect the engine to a "proper test wheel" and to run it without the propeller or flushing adapter. During the test the motor needs to run at 5000 rpm in forward gear. <br /><br />Changing the power pack seems pretty straight forward, a couple of bolts and some wires, however I have never performed a maximum spark advance adjustment. Is this something the average Joe can do or do I need specialized tools and training?

Do a search on setting "WOT timing". Joe Reeves has an artical that walks the "average joe" thru this simple process, and gives additional ways of checking your WOT timing settings.<br /><br />Read a few of the post you will find in the search results and you will be able to do it very easliy..

If all you did was change the PP, you don't have to mess with the timing ... it didn't change at all.

Changing a power pack involves 3 connections + ground and 2 bolts. 30 second job. Try eBay for descent price for used as opposed to new. Even show up new occasionally.
