Powerpack?

I've been having a problem with my Johnson 150GT as it's been running rough and burning alot of fuel. I spark tested it today and found the middle cylinder on both banks was dead. I suppose it's possible to have 2 coils go at once but not likely so I checked them out and got good readings on both. 260 ohms on each. I fired it back up and the middle cyl. on one bank came alive. I switched input and output leads on the middle coil on the other side and fired the bottom cyl. and it fired just fine. It would appear the powerpack output for the middle cyl. on one bank is dead. The other one seems to come and go. Does that sound like a powerpack or could it be a bad sensor coil or charge coil or what? Have powerpacks evolved at all and is the OEM still the way to go? What about The Sierra unit?

Re: Powerpack?

I just (on Wednesday) replaced my Power pack from Surplus Unlimited. You can check the sensor coils and charge coil for correct resistance. The power pack I got was not OEM. After a big 2 days it seems ok.

Clean all the ground connections for your coils and the power pack and check it again. If it's still bad, then replace the pack. I sell OEM but honestly, the aftermarket ( Rapair/CDI ) is good also. However, that's not true for every part.
