I have just learned that the power pack(one of em) is out on a 1985 force 85 motor that I had taken into the shop how do I test to be sure and, The mech told me the other one was arcing to the block and half of it was out. I am very new to boats but I know these are expensive and wanted to know how to be sure and what price range should I expect to pay for new ones? is there different brands and are they comparible in price?

Thanks in advance for reply....

oh and by the way the mech told me compression is very good on all 3, 120....should I be worried about other electrical being a cause for the powerpacks being bad? I am just wondering if I should take on this boat i have not officially bought it yet and I am having second thoughts....

If they all are out, sounds as if someone was starting the motor with the spark plug leeds off the plugs. All that electricity and no where to go!

'mornin' CD,

a couple of thoughts.

Force, is "defunct". As well, they only had a miniscule piece of the market back "in the day" when they were in existence.

Parts & Support will dwindle with time.

Given this premise, it is expected that the resale/trade-in value of the Force will be minimal.

Additional: take the time to do a search on this forum on "Force" motors. It appears that they have the reputation of an "entry level" motor.

That being said, maintenance and care are critical to the condition and expected longevity of the motor. unless you know the history and/or, have it checked by a trusted mechanic, you might want to "think twice" before making this purchase.

I am having the whole thing checked out and I do know the person that is offering the boat for sell, I have worked with him for years. I deffinatly want to have it running perfectly before I lay down any money. although what he is wanting for the boat is low compared to what I have seen by looking around. If they are indeed out, is it possible to have salvage parts for these things or is new on the electronics the only way to go?
