I have fluid streaming from the bottom of the system (three ram , 1990 Mariner 100's)<br /><br />The pump motor has just been overhauled, new brushes etc...<br /><br />It benchtested fine but once fitted it would not move up or down; then the fluid started streaming from the bottom axle of tilt ram.<br />What is the reason for this and <br />where can I find an exploded view of the unit?<br />Must the axle be screwed out or pressed out?<br />What are the two hex shaped holes on the one side ? Valves or tool holes?

If the unit didn't leak before teardown, chances are you cut a oring on assm.

Re: Powertrim pump leaks fluid

Laddies,<br /><br />Thanx , but the leak is on the bottom axle. I don't even know how to dissasemble that part so I have no idea whether there are seals "0" ring or otherwise - see the last two lines of my previous message/lament!<br /><br />If you can help I will be really grateful. A diagram of the unit -exploded- will be really welcome as there isn't one in my manual nor on 'SELOC'<br /><br />Regards

Yes, there are o-rings on that shaft, you can find a parts breakdown at BAM Marine site hope it will help

Re: Powertrim pump leaks fluid

According to my manual, you must start by removing the pump and ram assm. from the engine (I don't know if the pin can be replaced without doing it, you can ck) anyway if you look on the top side of the port pin support you should see a pin that will have to be drien out, then the cross pin should be able to be driven out the starboard side. On assm. you will need a tool that acts as a guide pin to act as a o-ring protecter an the shaft and o-rings coated with hyd. oil

Re: Powertrim pump leaks fluid

Laddies,<br /><br />Thank you it helps a lot.<br /><br />On the starboard sie of the pin are two hex holes ,brass sheathed, do you have any idea of their function? I've tried to unscrew them but I only managed to strip the allen keys. Is it not perhaps the sockets for a special tool of some sort that unscrews the pin from its seat? Although the diagram from BAM does not show any thread on the pin itself... <br /><br />I have removed the securing pin as you said but the centre pin wont budge.

Re: Powertrim pump leaks fluid

They are passage covers and the manual says to never remove them

Re: Powertrim pump leaks fluid

Laddies,<br />Thanx again. That means the thing must push out somehow, maybe I should enlist the help of an engineering firm.<br />Which manual do you have ? Mine covers a whole range of engines and I'm not always sure that I'm looking at the right stuff. It is also silent on issues such as the passage covers; even SELOC online fails to mention this.<br /><br />I really appreciate your help.

Mercury manuel #90-13645 and I belive it has been updated. Most aftermarket manuels should be left in the bathroom  ;)
