Howdy.

I just found out from talking to a neighbor that using spray-on oven cleaner will clean a carbeurator right up. Is this common knowledge?

I was also told that with this stuff, you should use gloves as this stuff is caustic. Polypropalene and polyethylene are both durable, and can withstand this cleaner, so you might want to find some to put underneath your parts.

I was also told to keep it far away from aluminum, as it will dissolve it.

Now, is this information true, or am i just pulling stuff out of my a$$?

Keep away from aluminum? Guess what that carb body is made out of? Stick with the real carb cleaner.

c/6

Hooty

Hey sharkcat,
I have used JB Weld to bond baffles in carburetor bowls before. The baffles keep the fuel from sloshing away from the jets in tight-turning situations.

c/6

Hooty

I prefer Marine Tex, but prolly cause I dont mess with engines much, although, Marine Tex advertises fixing engine blocks with its product ...

I guess Ive mentioned the marine tex fix of the bow on the Crestliner, Chugboat Annie ... a few weeks after putting her in the water with her new nose job, barnegat bay was hit by a sudden squall, and I mean five minutes and everything went to hell, forecast was golden, dunno what happened ... steep four to five footers smashing into the bow for wayyyy too long a time, lots of water hitting the windshield of my rather deep 18 foot boat ... dont want to think of the PSI loading on that patch, but it was fine as frog hair, not a prob

Ive been a fan of the stuff ever since, and use it for all sorts of repairs, its like heli arcing for fiberglass
