Pre 1965 Control Cables

I need to replace the control Cables on my 1963 Mercury 850 outboard. The control cables are for a Full Gear Shift merc control, which matches the lower unit. The cable ends that insert into the control don't match any I have seen on websites anywhere as they have bare cable ends that are held inside the control by 2 screws on top and bottom of the toothed plastic insert of the control itself. All other cables are of the newer 1965 and later style. I definitley need new cables as mine are completely rusted/shreded/broken. I don't want to have to switch boxes unless as a last resort.

call iboats store, i had the # to call teleflex direct, but can't find it. iboats store will give it to you.

This was way too hard. Teleflex said they couldnt help me because the controls were too old, and Iboats, while being very helpful and giving me the Teleflex phone number, couldnt cross reference it either. I broke down and called Grubb's and they hooked me up with a pair of used control cables in good condition. That guy is like Napa, if he doesnt have it in stock, he knows where to find it and you'll get it lickity split.
